Dr. Margaret (Elaine) Husted Obituary
On Saturday May 16th 2020, Margaret Elaine Husted passed away at age 84.
Elaine was born on March 9, 1936 in Chicago to Margaret E. Johnson Schulhof and Alois Frank Schulhof. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from the Loma Linda University in Loma Lina, CA. She was awarded a Doctorate in Nursing from Widner University in 1990. Elaine practiced Nursing for33 years in California and Pennsylvania and retired from Phoenixville Hospital as the Chief Nursing Officer after 26 years in her position. The focus of her career was Nursing Leadership and the advancement of professional nursing. Her expertise and knowledge was recognized by The American Nurses Association by awarding a Certificate in Nursing Administration Advanced.
She was married to Dr. Frank Husted, the love of her life. Their family included many loving cats and dogs. One of her passions was gardening and her home was filled with beautiful orchids complemented by hundreds of pieces of Heisey Glass that she and her husband collected.
Elaine was kind hearted and reached out to many through support of individuals in need and donations of her time and money to agencies in the community. . Her passions extended to a love of animals through her advocacy of Main Line Animal Rescue and her work to rescue and care for feral cats. Elaine believed strongly in protecting the environment. And even when working would make sure that paper products and aluminum cans were separated for trash pick-up. A resident of Spring City, she was active in the Green Valley's Watershed Association where she participated in the Membership Committee and Event Planning Committee. She enjoyed bird watching and participated in an annual bird counting for Cornell University. At Welkinwier she was responsible for checking the Blue Bird nesting boxes and the Mother’s Day Azalea Walk. Elaine was active in the East Vincent Township Historical Commission as a board member and secretary for 5 years. Elaine was a member and secretary for the Chester County Historical Commission and was past president and secretary for the Heisey Heritage Society. She was very supportive and active for 24 years at the local Phoenixville YMCA (Advisory Council and Building Committees) and when the YMCA reorganized served on the Corporate Board..
Elaine was an elegant woman who always enjoyed being with her many close friends, she was a caring, loyal and very loving friend. Having been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease Elaine continued a battle to remain independent for many years. Unfortunately the devastating COVID Virus was not something that Elaine could conquer and she died peacefully with Hospice Care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank and brother Marvin Schulhof. Elaine is survived by her Sisters in law, Joie Schulhof and Diane Campfield-Jajac, nieces, Kylie Schulhof and Catherine Campfield, her nephews, Michael Schulhof and Kent Campfield, her step son Frank Husted, her devoted companion Robert Graves and many dear friends from Barton Meadows, Phoenixville, Oregon, Ohio and Freedom Village.
