Welcome to the memorial page for

Joseph Demyan

May 23, 1945 ~ July 29, 2017 (age 72)
Joseph Demyan, 72, of Palm Harbor, FL, and formerly of Kimberton, PA, died on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Mease Hospital, Safety Harbor, FL.

Born on May 23, 1945 in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late John J. and Rose (Szymkiewicz) Demyan.

Joe joined the Air Force out of high school and was stationed in Okinawa where he filled his spare time helping to maintain an orphanage. As a result he started sponsoring children and during his life sponsored twelve children over a 50 year period.

After his discharge he started working temporarily with his father at Demyan Welding, and as he said, "44 years later I closed the doors".

He also branched out and sold and serviced lawn mowers, mini bikes and snowmobiles. He was very creative, he made wooden furniture and toys, then branched out to metal ornaments (making many out of recycled junk), gates and sign posts. He had customers as far away as Boston.

He never lost his sense of humor. Both he and his brother-in-law had been in the Air Force, while waiting to be airlifted to a Philadelphia hospital because he was so critically ill, he said to Ed, "four years in the Air Force and I was never in a helicopter, today I'm going to have a $25,000 ride".

After he became ill, to keep active he filled his days doing over 100 puzzles and even took cake decorating classes. He provided spectacular cakes each month to the assisted living facility where our sister, Margie, was in Alzheimer's care.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara wife of Ed Webster of Palm Harbor, FL, and nephew, Jeff Megay.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Sharff.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA, on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 11:00 am.

Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
