Gregory John Hanson, of Kennett Square, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends on January 8, 2018 at the age of 57. Greg is survived by his wife Mary (Glowacki) Hanson of 21 years and his three children Kyle, Meghan, and Danny; his mother Maureen Hanson; siblings Steve, Jeff, Scott, and Teri, and 9 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Charles Hanson.
He was born on May 3, 1960 in Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1983 with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering, After which he joined the US Navy, serving as a Nuclear Propulsion officer on the U.S.S. Nimitz until 1989. He then began working at DuPont for many years as a process engineer with more recent employment at Jacobs Engineering.
Greg was an avid golfer, Cowboys fan, and Blue Grass music enthusiast. He was proud of his Irish heritage having recently enjoyed a visit to the Emerald Isle. He was a member of Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church and served as Chairman of the New Garden Township Sewer Authority. As a loving and devoted father he was involved in his children's sporting endeavors and their educational pursuits. His family and friends were amazed at how he handled his prolonged illness with perseverance and courage.
A viewing will be held at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale, PA 19311 on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:30 pm.
Burial will be private in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
